No Butts About It

She is a ranch wife, mother, and cowgirl from the remote northern reaches of Elko County, where horsemanship isn’t a hobby—it’s a way of life. Her hands know the feel of reins worn smooth by weather and time. Her posture in the saddle speaks of long days moving cattle, not just arena laps.

Once a month, she’d make the long drive to town for the local horse shows, arriving with her good bay ranch horse—a partner shaped by work, not polish. He wasn’t flashy, but he was honest. The kind of horse that knew when to wait, when to move, and when to trust her lead without question.

In the ring, they didn’t perform—they conversed. Each cue was subtle, each response immediate. They glided through halter and reining classes with the kind of grace that only comes from shared miles and mutual respect.

This moment captures a pause between events: a quiet interlude where horse and rider rest, recalibrate, and prepare. Her well-worn chaps and custom saddle weren’t for show—they were tools of the trade, shaped by years of use and care.

Together, they embodied true horsemanship: not just the ability to ride, but the willingness to listen, to adapt, and to honor the horse as a partner. In and out of the arena, they were a team built on trust, grit, and the kind of bond that doesn’t need words.
